'Dexter' Revival Signs Clancy Brown As New Villain
'The Shawshank Redemption' and 'Billions' star is the new bad guy.
Showtime's forthcoming Dexter revival has found a bad guy. And boy, did they find a good one. Famed character actor Clancy Brown (The Shawshank Redemption, The Guardian, Billions) has been added to the cast.
At the risk of ruining the whole "scary villain" thing for those who don't know - Brown is also the voice of Mr. Krabs on the hit children's television show SpongeBob SquarePants.
Brown is set to play Kurt Caldwell, the unofficial mayor of a small town called Iron Lake. Caldwell is a former big rig driver and now owner of several trucks and the local truck stop. A man of the people, he's loved by everyone in town; if he's got your back, consider yourself blessed. Should anyone cross him, or hurt someone he loves, however, God help them.
Recently, Brown has had roles on hit shows like The Flash, Chicago P.D., Daredevil, The Crown, and The Mandalorian.
Michael C. Hall is set to reprise his role as title character Dexter Morgan, the vigilante serial killer who's humanity makes him lovable. Hall will be reunited with original showrunner Clyde Phillips. The 10-episode limited series will start shooting early next year, aiming for a fall 2021 premiere.
Hall and Phillips will executive produce the Dexter revival alongside John Goldwyn, Sara Colleton, Bill Carraro and Scott Reynolds.
"Dexter is such a special series, both for its millions of fans and for Showtime, as this breakthrough show helped put our network on the map many years ago," Showtime Entertainment president Gary Levine said in a statement. "We would only revisit this unique character if we could find a creative take that was truly worthy of the brilliant, original series. Well, I am happy to report that Clyde Phillips and Michael C. Hall have found it, and we can't wait to shoot it and show it to the world."
