The CW has revealed the first images from the upcoming series.
The CW has revealed our first look at Javicia Leslie as Batwoman in the upcoming new series of the same name. The network, along with production partner Warner Bros., have revamped the character and the suit for the show's upcoming second season. Check out the fierce new photos below.
“I love the fact that Ryan is becoming her own Batwoman — it’s her style, her swag, and her moment!” Leslie said in a statement. “It was an honour to be able to collaborate with [the designers]. I felt it was important that viewers could tell by the silhouette that Batwoman was a Black girl. With the form-fitting suit and beautiful Afro, we definitely nailed it!”
The second season of Batwoman will be a trailblazer, for sure. Javicia Leslie is the first Black actor to play the Batwoman character ever, whether in a movie or on television. “I am extremely proud to be the first Black actress to play the iconic role of Batwoman on television, and as a bisexual woman, I am honoured to join this groundbreaking show which has been such a trailblazer for the LGBTQ+ community,” she said in a press release back in July.
After Season 1, title character actor Ruby Rose stepped away from the show citing issues from a back surgery that plagued her during filming. Instead of simply replacing Rose, the CW opted to completely revamp the role. The Batwoman character is now officially part of the DC Comics Universe after making her debut in Batgirl #50.
Season 2 of the CW's Batwoman arrives in 2021.
