The show starts streaming next month.
Netflix has premiered the official trailer for the forthcoming Frank Miller (Sin City, 300) series Cursed. The streaming service also revealed several images from the show, which premieres on July 17. Watch the preview of Cursed below.
Thomas Wheeler (Puss in Boots, The Cape) will serve as showrunner, and executive produces alongside Miller and Leila Gerstein.
Based on the New York Times bestselling book of the same name, Cursed is a re-imagining of the Arthurian legend, told through the eyes of the young woman who would become the Lady of the Lake. Cursed is a coming-of-age story with themes familiar to our own time: the obliteration of the natural world, religious zeal and oppression, senseless war and finding the courage to lead in the face of the impossible.
"I have always been entranced by the mythological Arthur story - and by Nimue, in
particular," Miller said in a statement when the show was first announced. "It can be interpreted in any number of ways - from a delightful children's story, as in Sword in the Stone, to a terrifying interpretation like Excalibur. This tale represents an incredible opportunity and an exciting challenge for me as an illustrator, and I’m excited to collaborate on the story with Thomas Wheeler. I inherited a collection of antique children’s books from my mother, and I’ve always wanted to have a crack at it myself. This project is a dream come true.”
The show stars Katherine Langford of Thirteen Reasons Why fame. Additionally, Devon Terrell (Barry), Gustaf Skarsgård (Westworld, Vikings), Daniel Sharman (Fear the Walking Dead, Medici), Peter Mullan (Ozark), Lily Newmark (Pin Cushion), Shalom Brune-Franklin (The State, Our Girl), Sebastian Armesto (Poldark, Broadchurch), Emily Coates (Flack), Catherine Walker (Versailles, The Delinquent Season) and Billy Jenkins (The Crown, Holmes & Watson, Humans) round out the cast for Season 1.
Zetna Fuentes (Ray Donovan, Jessica Jones, The Deuce, Shameless) will direct and serve as an executive producer on the first two episodes. Tom Wheeler will write the companion book Cursed, which Frank Miller will illustrate to be published by Simon & Schuster in Fall 2019. Alex Boden (Sense8, Cloud Atlas) is producer and Silenn Thomas is co-executive producer.
Frank Miller's creative genius is well-documented. In bringing this book to life on screen, the odds of success are certainly in his favor. Check out the trailer and photos below, and comment to let us know just how much potential Cursed has to be Netflix's next big hit!
